/ˈskuːl.meɪts/ is photographer Costis Zagkas’ creative studio, located in the heart of Athens, right beside the train lines in Keramikos. Designed as a light-filled, contemporary workspace, the studio brings together state-of-the-art digital and analogue equipment, including large-format cameras, to meet the demands of virtually any photographic project: portrait, beauty, fashion, product, corporate or industrial.
After two decades working at major international sporting events, Costis returned to Athens to build a studio that reflects his own vision: professional, welcoming and aesthetically beautiful. His experience in both photography and print media informs the studio’s approach, combining technical excellence with an artistic eye.
Costis has worked as a professional photographer since 1990. Born in Athens and studying literature at the Sorbonne (Paris IV), he has covered five Summer and Winter Olympic Games as well as numerous global events. While he primarily uses digital cameras, he continues to work with film, maintaining a strong connection with traditional photographic processes.
What distinguishes his work is the seamless dialogue between painting and photography - an influence rooted in his lifelong interest in the visual arts.
“Photography is always an act of choosing, selecting one fragment of the world and giving it form. Every photograph I take reflects how I see, and ultimately, who I am. Each one is a piece of my own portrait.
I photograph so that the tiny part of beauty that belongs to me is not lost. In the end, that is the ultimate challenge of photography: a hint of immortality.”
Over time, /ˈskuːl.meɪts/ aims to grow into a creative hub for people who share a passion for photography and the arts, offering a space where ideas, images and stories can take shape.
